The BBC has a new three part scientific theory series called Visions of the Future, which I have been watching online. The last episode was called The Quantum Revolution.
"Theoretical physicist and futurist Michio Kaku shows how quantum physics is giving mankind the power to manipulate the fundamental building blocks of matter."
Much of the programme concentrated on how this scientific revolution could develop self-sustaining methods of power generation.
The director of the UK Nuclear Fusion Programme estimates that within the next fifty years, fusion energy will be a reality.
There was also mention of using plant protein to generate solar power, which reminded me of the biomimicry I heard about in The 11th Hour. I didn't much like the way the scientists bandied about the phrase 'hijacking nature' however.
Also interesting was the prospect of a personal fabricator, that is, a desktop machine that could self-produce any object you need on a molecular scale. It carries many implications for the value of possessions.
Then there was discussion of teleportation, which is just plain frightening.

When I got home from work today, I read in the park. Will laughed at me, but after a day spent in an air-conditioned, windowless room, I really needed to be outside!
