I could just idle constructively (see The Idler), or I could make a go at things. I have been thinking how much I am interested in the concept of sustainable dwellings, whether these be in the form of mud huts or expensive, carbon-neutral penthouses built from recycled Tetrapaks, so this would seem like a fruitful area to explore in terms of design placements. I haven't mentioned this topic much in my blog before, mainly due to my well-founded hesitations of the theory of sustainability. It is a very convoluted discussion, but I am not yet dissuaded from the possibilities.
As for the 'having fun' part, there a few festivals that sell themselves as eco-aware (Fuji Rock, Eco-Fest), but they are either far away or heavily family-orientated. I really want to go to Benicassim and Sónar Festival!
I am also enrolling on Spanish Level 2, so that will be something to keep me occupied, hopefully coming in useful! Taking a rest from all of the Spanish cinema, last week I watched 'Into the Wild', which chronicles the true story of Chris McCandless, and his ultimately fatal quest to live alone, self-sustained in the Alaskan wilderness. His portrayed enthusiasm was stirring, even if the extremity of his actions led to what could be perceived as a tragic end. It seems that everything I have read/watched recently where in there exists an idealogical character, that character ends up dead or conformed.
