So I think that I ought to do something with a tangible outcome. Such as sorting out my career predicament, even though careers are most definitely an invention of the 20th century!
I will begin this blog (officially) by mentioning The Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC). Part of the Holbeck Urban Village, they are, self professedly, '...the national centre for delivering the skills and knowledge needed to make better places.' That sounds quite general, but essentially they work towards creating modern, community driven, low carbon communities.
The ASC has a student awards scheme, Future Vision, that champions forward thinking ideas. Students of any discipline are welcome to enter, and prizes include a work placement. Unfortunately, the deadline for 2008 has passed (check out the winning entry below and on the site), but I have signed up for the 2009 entries. I could use this as a starting point for my first self-directed brief on Vis Com year 3.

Also affiliated with these organisations, is an external careers website, 'Ask: what if?'. It is a help portal aimed at 16-25 year olds interested in a socially or environmentally aware vocation. It is a bit patronising, helped along by the 'friendly' design, but I think it is worth a peruse.
I think my Eustachian tubes are blocked so I am going to inhale some steam.
