The Year of the Rat

On Saturday night, I went to the West Yorkshire Playhouse. I have to say it was a much better use of my time than the customary binge drinking. The play, 'The Year of the Rat', is essentially an account of George Orwell's struggle to finish his magnum opus, '1984'. Assuming one has read Orwell's work, and is familiar with its themes, they will find it at once witty, amusing, educative and moving. I came away feeling not just entertained but inspired to visit the theatre more frequently. Tickets aren't always as expensive as you think, last year I managed to go to the ballet for a fiver!

The script was on sale but I decided that I probably ought to be spending the nine pounds in my pocket on bin bags and bread. So I settled on the flyer.

My visit also prompted me to apply for a vacancy at the box office. I am anticipating a phone call any time now!
